Over this past weekend the Circuit of The Americas opened up in Travis County, Texas, near Austin. Track officials and Pirelli North America got together and invited the media and VIPs to see the first official laps of the track firsthand.
Mario Andretti had the honor to christen the track with its first lap. He took a Lotus 79 with a John Player Special livery around the track. This car was much like the one he used to win the F1 driver’s championship in 1978.
Reserve Lotus F1 driver Jerome D’Amborosio was also on hand to take on the course in the 2010 Renault R30 F1 car. In the video below he gives his own commentary on the course itself. He says a lot of the track has some very technical turns. He also points out all the spots where overtaking is possible. Its very interesting insight on the track.
COTA will be hosting the 2012 United States Grand Prix November 16-18.
