Virtual reality technology has come a long way in recent years. We currently have the Oculus Rift, Sony’s Morpheus, Microsoft’s HoloLens, Samsung’s Gear VR, HTC Vive and more. As you can see, the virtual reality market is becoming the real deal.
To put their VR tech on one of automotive’s biggest stages, Samsung teamed up with Lamborghini to introduce the world’s first virtual driving experience at the 2015 Geneva International Motor Show.
In this collaboration, visitors strapped into the Gear VR and were immediately whisked away on a virtual road trip in the seat of a Lamborghini Huracan. This virtual trip took visitors through a route of bends along the Amalfi Coast in Southern Italy, allowing guests to truly experience the Huracan while sitting on the showroom floor.
Samsung and Lamborghini are still working on introducing new virtual driving experiences with the Gear VR headset. These include a scenic trip through the towns of the Amalfi coast and a high-speed sprint across the Imola race track.
This is just one of the great examples of emerging technology working hand-in-hand with the latest in the automotive industry. Hopefully the upcoming racing games, such as Project Cars, Gran Turismo or Forza 6, will offer VR support.
