Guess what stepped out of the 2013 New York Auto Show? A Ford Shelby truck. That’s right, the Ford Shelby F10 SVT Raptor, a Shelby American Inc.-tweaked SVT Raptor touted as the “big brother” to the GT500 Super Snake and you can have one this summer but you’d better hurry
because Ford is keeping the production to 100 each year. At $18,000 more than the base Raptor, the base price should be about $62,600.00. Each truck will be lovingly registered with the Shelby Registry and will sport a lovely Shelby badge on the glove box.
What else is special about this beefed up version of the Ford SVT Raptor? For one, it’s got a Shelby/Whipple 2.9-liter supercharger that boosts the 6.2-liter SOHC 16-valve V-8 engine output to 575 hp from 411hp with 459 lb-ft of torque. There have also been suspension modifications to make it a true all-terrain pickup to which the 35” BF Goodrich All-Terrain tires will attest. The pickup also sports a Shelby Stinger custom exhaust, side fender heat extractors, and custom leather interior upgrades. The cab sports four doors and carries five passengers, with a payload of 1,000 to 1,100 lbs (est.) and a towing capacity of 6,000 to 8,000 pounds (est.).
Advance road testing puts the zero-to-sixty mark at an amazing 5 seconds, with just a feathering of the gas pedal to get the supercharger to kick in. Reportedly, the road testers made sure to run the Ford Shelby F10 SVT Raptor off-road as well as on to test out the newly-modified suspension and ensure that the pickup will crawl over most anything it comes across.
Available in Matte Black, Gloss White, Silver, Azure Blue, and Red, one can choose from three special graphics packages: the classic Shelby, the Shelby Splash and the Super Snake to round out the total Shelby package.
