We all knew it was coming, but we can now officially say that the drop-top version of the Ferrari 458 Speciale, the 458 Speciale A (A stands for Aperta), is here. This news comes in a press release issued by Ferrari today.
The drop-top conversion is made possible through an aluminum retractable hardtop. Thanks to the top’s lightweight construction, Ferrari made the weight difference between the Speciale and Speciale coupe just 110 lbs. Drivers can deploy or retract this top in only 14 seconds.
Powering the 458 Speciale A is Ferrari’s most powerful, naturally aspirated, road-going, V8 engine ever. This engine provides the spider with 596 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. Winning three international Best Performance Engine awards, this V8 has proven to be tried and true.
Performance, according to the release, is just as impressive as you would expect from the car. The 458 Speciale A will sprint from 0-62 mph in just 3 seconds and has a Fiorano lap time of 1’23″5, the same time as the car’s hardtop relative and faster than the Enzo’s lap time of 1’24″90.

There will only be 499 458 Speciale As created and the car itself will premiere at the Paris Motor Show, which runs October 4-19.
