As the sky darkened and the air cooled, honored guests of Ferrari of Tampa Bay came one after another to see the unveiling of the 458 Speciale, the newest chapter of the Ferrari 458 Italia’s story. The showroom was dimmed, hors d’oeuvres filled the room with the scent of fine Italian food and in the center of it all sat a covered racecar surrounded by lights.
Alongside the vehicle was a row of its classic ancestors, acting as a backdrop to the newly developed 458 as it sat beneath stunning red lights. As the party stirred, the time came. The miniature stadium lights turned to blue and General Manager Marlow Miller and his sales team pulled the covers. This was our second time seeing this particular prancing pony, but this time was no less thrilling than the first.
The car boasts a design that simply makes older 458s appear bland and ordinary. The Ferrari red vehicle has a North American Racing Team (NART) stripe running down the center. The engine bay was covered in carbon fiber and designed to provide onlookers a glimpse at the true art of Italian engineering. The inside of the Speciale is clearly designed around a race track mentality, with lighter components and racing harnesses on the seats.
We thank Ferrari of Tampa Bay for the opportunity to be a part of their event and for allowing us to take a seat inside what may be the most impressive 458 ever designed. Below you’ll find a gallery of the event and video of the Speciale revving.
