DreamWorks is releasing a new movie called Turbo, and starring alongside the eponymous snail is a modified Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. James Bell, director of branded content for General Motors, says that the Camaro will serve as a promotional tie-in. “It makes a car that kids will look at and think, ‘That is just the coolest car I’ve ever seen, I want a Hot Wheels toy like that car,’ as well as for the dads to say, ‘A Camaro might be a nice addition to my driveway,’” says Bell.
For the movie out July 17, General Motors built a one-off 2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. It’s already been displayed at several auto shows as well as IndyCar races, and it is expected to make an appearance at the movie’s premiere in New York City. With 700 horsepower, the ZL1 extracts 580 horsepower from its supercharger 6.2-liter V8 engine. The Camaro also sports giant wheels, flared fenders, an enormous racing-style front splitter, a giant rear wing, quad exhaust tips and foglights that cycle between red, green and blue. The performance and precision is due to its Magnetic Ride Control, world-class braking and 4-wheel independent suspension you can’t get on a Mustang. “This is the kind of vehicle that engineers dream about designing and car nuts dream about driving,” says Chevrolet.
